Autonomous transport in rural areas – Bad Birnbach
In the Bavarian market town of Bad Birnbach, trials of autonomous electric buses have been conducted as part of two projects: the recently completed “HEAL” (highly automated – social – demand-oriented – rural) research project on demand-responsive rural transport and in the ongoing Autonomous Bus Bad Birnbach initiative.

In collaboration with Cotral Spa, ioki has launched an innovative on-demand service in the rural area of Monti Reatini area, conveniently connecting 30 rural municipalities with the city of Rieti.

Data-based mobility analyses for autonomous, on-demand public transport offerings
Autonomous driving is currently one of the biggest topics in the mobility sector, and public transport operators are also devoting more attention to the issue. Alongside vehicle technology and infrastructure, one of the main tasks is to perform a data- and software-driven mobility analysis for identifying a suitable operating area.
Analysis of the public transport network in Germany with focus on rural areas
In spring 2021, the mobility analytics experts at ioki analysed the public transport offer in Germany and the existing new mobility services. Their focus: the potential of pooling, on-demand/demand responsive transport (DRT) and sharing offers. With the help of data-based studies, ioki Mobility Analytics creates a sound analysis of the current mobility and supply situa- tion for its customers and derives efficient mobility concepts.
On-demand solutions for call-collecting and call-line taxi operations
Rural areas are still lagging in terms of sustainable and needs-based mobility solutions. However, digitization is bringing existing concepts of flexible forms of operation such as call-gathering taxis and call-line buses back to life, as they can make a profitable contribution to the traffic turnaround.
