Perspectives from Jens Kukuk, Operations Manager at DB Regio Bus Mitte GmbH
Simple, flexible, dependable – high demands are placed on both the control centre and the drivers in bus operations. It is helpful when you can count on reliable software for route management and navigation. Since December 2023, our ioki Route software has been in operation in Speyer. We spoke with Jens Kukuk, Operations Manager at DB Regio Bus Mitte GmbH, about their experience with ioki Route. He explains how the software has changed the daily working routine of drivers on their bus routes and shares his insights from over a year of practical implementation.
You have been using ioki Route for regular bus services in Speyer for over a year now. What’s your verdict?

Our assessment after a year is very positive. Our driving personnel can be deployed on different routes much more quickly and can also take on unfamiliar routes at short notice. As an additional feature, we would like to have access to the complete driver schedule – that would make operation even more convenient for our drivers*.

*Note from ioki: Feedback from operational use is essential for us. The requested feature is already planned for further development of ioki Route.

What do your drivers and control room staff have to say about ioki Route?

Our drivers really like using the app, especially on new and unfamiliar routes. In the control centre, we appreciate the time savings: last-minute route changes can be communicated quickly to all affected vehicles.

Which features provide you with the most benefits?

We particularly value that the software supports different languages. This makes it much easier to deploy drivers who speak little or no German. It is also very important for us in the control centre to be able to adjust routes immediately when there are changes to journey paths.

How do you plan to use the system in the future?

We will continue to use ioki Route as a permanent component in our scheduled services. The system is especially important for our rail replacement services, where adjustments are often required at short notice.

Would you recommend ioki Route?

Without a doubt! The software has notably improved our operations and makes daily work easier for both our drivers and the control centre.

The recently announced partnership between ioki and Vesputi promises innovations in the field of mobility services. Passengers can now buy their tickets directly in the on-demand apps from ioki. But what does this actually look like in reality? We spoke to Henrik Umnus, Managing Director of the Verkehrsbetrieb Greifswald GmbH. A year ago, the on-demand service “Friedrich” took to the streets of Greifswald and has been transporting passengers without a fixed timetable ever since. Now passengers can book their public transport tickets directly in the on-demand app. Have fun reading!
