Viva Italia: ioki expands on-demand transport services in Italy

(Frankfurt am Main, 10th October 2024) DB subsidiary ioki brings intermodal mobility and customised solutions to Italy • Flexible shuttles connect urban and rural areas via public transport – simply via app • New services in Rome, Savona and Brindisi

For the operation of the HeinerLiner on-demand shuttle, the Darmstadt mobility service provider HEAG mobilo will cooperate with the Berlin company CleverShuttle. The company was the best bidder in a Europe-wide tendering process, the necessary software will be provided by ioki. The majority shareholder in CleverShuttle and ioki (100%) is Deutsche Bahn.

In spring 2021, HEAG mobilo plans to launch its HeinerLiner offer. The electrically operated minibuses are to serve a dense network of stops in Darmstadt and thus close the gaps in the public transport system. The vehicles are booked via an app.

The HeinerLiner is initially planned for four years and should be established permanently if successful. The service will initially be established in downtown Darmstadt, and after a short test run the service will be extended to the entire city area.

HeinerLiner vehicles come from Mercedes
The order for the procurement of the electrically operated minibuses goes to the manufacturer Mercedes, which could likewise prevail with the vehicle type eVito in a European-wide tender procedure against competitors. The delivery of the electrically operated minibuses is planned in three steps starting in March 2021, so that the HeinerLiner fleet will grow in parallel to the expansion to the entire city area. The comfortable minibuses offer space for up to seven passengers and, like all trains and electric buses from HEAG mobilo, run on 100% green electricity from renewable sources. Some of the HeinerLiner vehicles will also be equipped with appropriate ramps and fastenings for transporting wheelchair users.

The HeinerLiner is supported by the state of Hesse and by funds from the “Immediate Clean Air Program 2017-2020” (Sofortprogramm Saubere Luft 2017-2020) of the German government. Further information on the concept of an on-demand shuttle and the HeinerLiner from Darmstadt can be found on the HEAG mobilo website at www.heagmobilo.de/der-darmstädter-heinerliner.
