ioki, the leading European provider of on-demand mobility, has won the tender for the Kraftraum-Shuttle project in North Rhine-Westphalia. The on-demand platform from ioki is used for this pioneering mobility project, which is intended to make local transport in the Rhenish mining area more attractive and improve access to public transport.
Integrated mobility instead of standalone solutions for on-demand transport
The aim is to establish a comprehensive, cross-municipal and cross-authority platform that combines all on-demand services in the region. This platform is to be used by all transport companies and municipalities. It enables seamless integration into existing public transport information systems. After the kick-off in Bergheim in the autumn of 2024, the Kraftraum-Shuttle started in the municipality of Rommerskirchen on 7 March 2025.
The intelligent on-demand system by ioki calculates the most efficient routes and ensures that the vehicles can be seamlessly integrated into the existing public transport system and timetable information. By using ioki’s modern technology, a new mobility service will be introduced that will enable convenient and flexible use of public transport.
Benefits for all passengers and municipalities
Passengers can currently conveniently book the on-demand vehicles in Bergheim and in Rommerskirchen via the REVG mobie app. In Bergheim, passengers can use more than 1,400 virtual stops to get on and off. The Kraftraum-Shuttle service is designed to have reduced barriers and offers easy access to public transport for all sections of the population. In the future, booking will also be available via a website – for those without mobile devices.
With this innovative project, ioki is strenghtening public transport in North Rhine-Westphalia and helping to reduce private care usage. With improved connectivity and greater flexibility, public transport is becoming the first choice for many people.
The Kraftraum-Shuttle is a joint project of the district town of Bergheim, the REVG Rhein-Erft-Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH and the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Sieg (VRS) and is funded by the federal and state governments. More information about the Kraftraum-Shuttle project and the partners involved can be found on www.kraftraum-shuttle.de.
