The event was kicked off by Michael Wurm, Director of Mobility Analytics & Consulting at ioki, with his keynote “Unlocking cost potential in public transport – a collaborative approach”. He showed the development of demand-responsive transport and presented smart approaches for planning and operations in times of tight budgets. His central message: the challenges can only be mastered together. This includes thinking about public transport holistically, using digitalisation as an opportunity, and reimagining tenders.Â
These strategic impulses provided the perfect basis for the subsequent interactive workshops. In mixed teams, the participants analysed a variety of practical cases: from occupancy problems in scheduled services to optimising commuter flows to the efficient conversion of traditional dial-a-ride systems into modern on-demand services. Through direct exchange with each other and supported by the ioki experts, all teams were able to solve their cases.Â
This year, ioki insights live offered particularly ample time and space for the dialogue between the users of the ioki Platform. In addition, the participants were able to inform themselves about further current developments and services.Â
Under the title “Vision vs. Reality – Experiences and Challenges of Regional and Urban On-Demand Transport”, three panel participants provided insights into the practical experiences with their DRT services and answered questions such as:Â
- To what extent are on-demand services part of an integrated, urban or regional mobility concept or a mobility vision?Â
- What public and political expectations need to be met for these services?Â
- How will the services continue after the end of a funding period?Â
The discussion became particularly lively during the “Ask us anything” session. The participants were able to ask their burning questions directly to the platform experts. This open round offered the opportunity to address specific issues from the day-to-day work of transport companies and discuss how ioki can support in finding solutions.Â
The day, which ended with a joint dinner, impressively showed: the personal conversation between all participants is the key to the further development of public transport – especially at a time when the efficient design of local public transport is more important than ever.Â
