Martin, the project on the local public transport plan in Wiesbaden is almost complete. What is your conclusion?
The innovative approach to further developing the public transport network was an exciting project for us as a team. In several iterative steps, we were able to develop a target network that has improved significantly compared to the existing network in terms of journey times, for example. The target network is now more attractive and offers more people adequate access to public transport. Thanks to the intensive involvement of the population, politicians and other stakeholders in the network design, we have succeeded in combining the objectives with the benefits in a target network. This involvement has significantly increased acceptance of the local transport plan.    Â

How did the project with the city of Wiesbaden come about? Â
The city issued a request for proposals for the development of a local public transport plan in 2022. Alongside the Planersocietät, we submitted a proposal and successfully persuaded the client – largely due to our data-driven mobility analyses and the technical expertise within our project team.
 Â
Why are local public transport plans important for a sustainable and digital mobility?
Public transport forms the backbone of the modes of transport in ecomobility. When paired with a robust pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, competitive public transit can effectively curb private car usage. Local public transport plans aim to assess and improve community transit offerings, addressing current needs such as digitalisation, infrastructure, and urban development.Â

What do you particularly like about your job? Â
I identify 100% with the goal of driving forward and executing a genuine transformation in transportation. This is something my colleagues and I strive towards daily. When we receive recognition and appreciation for our efforts, such as in the case of Wiesbaden, it’s rewarding despite the significant effort required. The teamwork within our team is exceptional: it’s gratifying when colleagues, even with limited time available, jump right in to offer their assistance. The high-caliber results of our work are largely attributed to this outstanding teamwork.Â
Thank you!
